British Invasion Couldn't Happen Today

I saw an article about how in today's day & age, the type of frenzy & surprise that the Beatles & the rest of the 'invasion' brought to the world couldn't happen again. We're too connected, it would be all over YouTube, cell phones would be buzzing, twitter, Facebook, etc. No element of surprise anymore. Sad, isn't it?

I still get suprised AC, mind i dont have a phone or do twitter od facebook. Im always find new and interesting music. Closest i ever got to frenzy was seeing David Bowie in 1973, loads of horribble screaming teenagers, . Luckily its not often ive been among popular artists.

Me neither plus I personally don't do FB or Twitter.
Last person I saw live was Olivia Newton John well over a decade ago in Orillia Ontario at a casino (no I don't gamble but we have large casinos).

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Titch, not quite The Beatles but they surprised me!

I'm more into Ray, Dave, Pete & Mick. Although not together anymore & one is dead, I felt they were better than the Beatles, just didn't have the money machine behind them.

The Fab Four were a one off, history has made sure they stayed that way.

I have never been into 'pop' music, - it did nothing for me basck in the 60s and still does nothing for me now. I much prefer classical music and in particular - OPERA!!!

Many more groups tried it after the Beatles and didn't succeed, the only ones who came near to their popularity was the Rolling Stones.
What about all the singers and bands in the UK who copied all the early American 50's and 60's hits?, some of them even copied the Americanisms and the accents, Cliff Richard with Livin' Doll wanted to "lock her up in a trunk so no big hunk could steal her away" What the hell is a hunk I used to ask meself. Another of his was "Gee whiz it's you" well gee whiz I was puzzled with that too, Alma Cogan was a devil for copying others, there were dozens more at it. I suppose you could call that an invasion too.

Ha ha, Jem! Gee whiz is just slang, like holy cow or oh come on, kinda hard to explain although I'm sure you know now. Just like a hunk is a very good looking, strapping man.

My favourite band is The Kinks. Yes, a British Invasion band.
Gee whiz, they never got their due although Ray Davies was FAR superior in song writing than Lennon/McCartney.
