In-laws

How do you get on with your son or daughter-in-law? I have just the one son and get on really well with my d-in-law but do know a few people who have problems with theirs.

None yet, Niece is marrying in October so he will be the first. Nice young man very polite so hope that is not just for us.

My mother-in law was the mother-in-law from hell..She would sit beside me on a chair whilst I was ironing my husband's shirts..''No..you don't do it like that!''

Once I was divorced from her son.. she turned into the sweetest thing..and we quickly became best friends..

Yes, perhaps I should have included parents-in-law in my question too.

Oh now parents in law my MIL was not very nice for about 5 years and one day I sat down and said look we both love him and this is making him unhappy we have to stop, she pondered it and we were best friends from then on. Really miss her since she died FIL was a different sort though and I am not convinced he wasn't related to the devil in some way

My in-laws from both of my marriages were OK, all now deceased though.

It was more difficult for me..I am English and my in-laws were French..I wasn't used to their ways...

I did have a partner however...who had a daughter from another marriage..she would come with lists of her demands..as she was 6 I did try to ride over Lancome lipstick no 5..''Ruby temptation'' and her pleas for the latest phone.When she told me I could pay via by bank account..

I took her to a shoe shop..to have her feet measured for a pair of ''school shoes''..

She ran round the shop and picked up a pair of red high heeled shoes..when I told her they weren't appropiate..she started screaming..'I hate you..I hate you..you are not my mother!!..

I assured her that she already had a mother..and ''a friend'' would be nice!!

I don't think she was..it was an acrimonious split..and she had taken her mother's side..

Her mother used her as a weapon maybe?
