What Does The Queen Do For Canada?

Am I wrong or last I heard Canada is not a colony anymore.
Now I feel many people may hate me after stating this but why on earth do we here in Canada still treat the Queen as if she's 'our' Queen?

I don't have a problem with people visiting our great country but it galls me that our stupid politicians are forking out all kinds of taxpayers money catering to Royalty.

Really, technically speaking what purpose do they serve? How come they're lavished with millions of dollars & special considerations?

I realize far, far, far back in history it was 'people' that made kings, queens, etc. & now it's tradition.

But I just still cannot understand seeing photos of royals on magazines, assuming what their clothes cost, their trips, yachts, baby George's clothes costs, etc etc etc & wondering WHY??

Guess I should write to my government.A lotta good that'll do

Wiki gives quite a good explanation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Canada

I have no problem with people not wanting her to be head of their countries but I do urge caution at least with her you know what you are getting, change can be good but not always.

The better question is what does Canada do for our queen? everybody knows she is the Queen of Australia, you keep your grubby little North American hands off her. Anyway I don't know what you are complaining about she is the perfect head of state, someone else pays for her, accommodates her and keeps her in the style to which she has grown accustomed.

Mind you one of her grandchildren, his wife and baby visited us last week and apparently cost Australian taxpayers nearly $2million for their little jaunt. We must send them a clear message.

THERE IS NO NEED TO VISIT!

Re: What Does The Queen Do For Canada?

I don't know anything about the sovereignty of the Queen in Canada or Australia or any of the other places that used to make up the British Empire, all I can say is that personally I think she is a very hard working Lady, attending all those boring ceremonies without fail, meeting endless dignitaries, pumped up dictators, bishops, popes, celebrities and all the rest of them, the only time I see her fairly relaxed is when she's at the races. She certainly doesn't hang about like an ornament, she's all over the place, an exceptionally hard working person in my opinion.
When it boils down to it I think there are very few of us who would give up our freedom to do what she does, she is not a free woman and her time never belonged to herself, unlike most of us.
As for the whole idea of Kings and Queens, old hat and should be confined to chess and playing cards.

Fair play to you Julie, always stick to your guns.

Might be interesting to hear what Uncle Joe has to say on the subject, although I have a fair idea.

Re: What Does The Queen Do For Canada?

Canada is the most visited of The Queen’s 15 other Commonwealth realms with Her Majesty having personally visited more than 24 times.

Now at the age of 88, she still works very hard with little sign of slowing down.

Here are 88 interesting facts about Queen Elizabeth ....

Didn't you just address my concerns? Everything you state is exactly what I'm talking about
