RIP Joan

My mother's oldest friend, known since primary school, died this week. I had rekindled our friendship in the last year and she gave me her piano as she could no longer play it due to a stroke. I played it last night with a few tears. Another link to the past gone. But I will visit her life-long companion next month to keep things alive. RIP Joan.

I keep in touch with my mum's best mate - it keeps mum close somehow, so I can imagine how you feel.

Yes, the piano is a Significant Thing. It not only keeps Joan in my mind, but also my mother. And Joan's life-long companion told me she was so glad that I had it as it would have broken her heart to come home to see it after Joan had died. Prior to her stroke she played it virtually every day for about 70 years. A very precious gift indeed.
