Famous Detectives.

Looking at Sherlock Holmes on the TV and Inspector Lestrade says it's an open and shut case, talk about stating the obvious, what good is a case if it doesn't open and shut?
Who's your favourite Detective in fiction?

Depends whos playing the part, thought Jeremy Brett was fab as Sherlock.
Liked Columbo, but it went on too long, too many series made.
Liked Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple ......

Miss Marple by Margaret Rutherford or Joan Hickson really get my vote. Morse and Lewis a close second, Frost was good too.

Precious Ramotswe has to be my all time favourite (The No.1 Ladies detective Agency). Also like all of the above and Poirot, Jonathon Creek, Murdoch and Miss Fisher, in fact most of them except Taggart.

Re: Famous Detectives.

I like Poirot a lot but Miss Marple appeals to me more, she's such a nosy old lady and she always seems to get away with it, it's as if nobody is paying attention to her and all the time her mind is working overtime, like my missus in a way, glad she can't see this.
Margaret Rutherford was brilliant, the only thing I didn't like about the three films she made playing Marple was the way they changed the original stories for the screen. I loved Joan Hickson too, she does a great job on the audio books also.
I could never get into Maigret or any of the American Detectives, I used to love the Paul Temple books and the radio series. Anyone remember 'The Toff'?

Miss Marple best played by Joan Hickson. IMO

I agree, though Rutherford was super too, can't warm to Geraldine McEwan or Julia MacKensie. I think Margaret Rutherford looks were the best though!

Re: Famous Detectives.

There was "No Hiding Place" and another one I can't remember, just one word in the title...
