A cull.

My husband and myself have been having a laugh about politicians increasingly mentioning pensioners as being one of the biggest drains on the benefit system. It's seems we have some very selfish people who simply won't die before reaching pension age Of course it's another ploy to demonise yet another section of society just like the unemployed, to cut benefits.

We thought maybe a cull would be the way to go

But we can't decide who would be first in line for the cull. Any suggestions or volunteers grumpy old men and women, maybe, that should clear a good few out

A cull of the politicians would be the first and right step

What they always fail to understand is unless we all earn enough during our life time working we will always be a drain when we retire. They seem to own a lot of businesses between them perhaps if they looked at the wages they pay we could all save and look after ourselves during retirement.

Or we could simply cull as suggested and I have a list as long as your arm of people to go first - oddly they are all MPs, bankers and people who take our money from us even before they retire

Re: A cull.

I agree, start with the House of Lords. Start with all the members who are claiming state pension besides salary and expenses. Same with the House of Commons. And the European MP's. Then move on to all the fat cats who are doing the same. Peter Stringfellow is one but was magnanimous enough to hand back his winter fuel allowance so Peter is on the cull list

Typical isn't it. Talk about double standards, they say they are doing their best to make everyone healthier and live longer on the one hand, and on the other they tell us to die sooner because we are a strain on the economy, it's enough to make you want to choke them all.
If they lifted the smoking ban that would be a start, mostly only older people smoke now as they were told it was OK to do so years ago, when that wasn't there everyone seemed to be dying on cue and there were no problems, revenue was up from the high tax on tobacco.
Culling could well be considered by the ruling parties, but in a very humane way, maybe one of the governments whiz kids could come up with an idea of killing two or more old birds with one stone, how about this, let the pubs stay open all day and night and have a special room for pensioners playing all the old songs and showing all the old films, give them free drinks, let them have a good time and drink themselves to death, they will die happy in the knowledge that they died for their country, it will also provide more work for bar staff, ambulance workers and undertakers. Might even go for that option meself.
