Robotic Army

Saw a headline today 'Is the US developing a robotic army ..?'
I thought this was a great idea, minimum loss of life .....?
A way off, I guess - but having watched the docus on WW1 and WW2 - what a great feat this would be if it were to happen in the future ...
How would it work I wonder if we had robot soldiers .....
I shall have to ponder for a good while ......

Re: Robotic Army

Well in one way it could be good but who would they be fighting would all countries have them or just a few because that could be quite scary.

Re: Robotic Army

If the US are planning such a step forward then other countries would be looking into it. It would certainly save a vast amount of lives if it is achieved...But, as you say, not all countries would have the capability, so a war with them would be over pretty quick ....

Re: Robotic Army

Also what would stop them being used against the citizens of their own countries, do we trust our leaders enough to give them that sort of power ?

From what I've seen, this happens already with police and soldiers - if robots are the future, it will probably continue, the problems you highlight are worthy thoughts, I guess we wont be here to see the outcome. Warfare has changed so dramatically, it is inevitable, the future changes will be 'robotic' or

Re: Robotic Army

Thing in with human soldiers you can hope some will not follow orders and fire on the population with robots they wouldn't have that humane outlook.

Re: Robotic Army

True - its not so appealing to me now .......

Still, I think the driverless trucks are a good idea, apparently they can spot all sorts of hazards ahead - that will be a huge help to the soldiers - maybe they should stop at that !

Re: Robotic Army

Yes that would be good, anything that keep the troops safe has to be a good idea.

They already have drones, pilotless aeroplanes which carry bombs.
