Thomas More school in Belgium appears to be following the lead of the US military and retail giant Amazon by utilising the latest advances in drone technology to curb cheating in exams.
The miniature DJI Phantom aircraft, equipped with a GoPro video camera, requires one invigilator to control it while another checks the video monitor for any devious activity by students.
When I used to invigilate for exams, I would state, very clearly, to the students: you may look up for inspiration, you may look down in desperation but you may not look sideways for information. That seemed to work quite well
How would you feel with a drone flying around in an exam room? Is it really necessary to go this far?
How sad to live in a world where such a device is deemed necessary !
People have always cheated in exams Silver Tabby - not realising that to cheat means that when they get the job they cheated their way into, they won't make a very good job of it because their knowledge is not up to scratch!
Surely the job could be done by a couple of cameras, rather than a noisy and potential accident waiting to happen drone. Daft idea, and if it needs 2 people to operate it why dont they just use their eyes and ears instead. ?
Both things I did wonder about Nom but I suppose the drone can get behind the students and even drop to leg level to see dastadly notes on someone's lap.

It is still sad though. Ultimately the only people they are cheating is themselves.
