Does chocolate cause depression ..

People who regularly eat chocolate are more depressive, experts have found.
Research in Archives of Internal Medicine shows those who eat at least a bar every week are more glum than those who only eat chocolate now and again.
Many believe chocolate has the power to lift mood, and the US team say this may be true, although scientific proof for this is lacking.
But they say they cannot rule out that chocolate may be a cause rather than the cure for being depressed.
In the study, which included nearly 1,000 adults, the more chocolate the men and women consumed the lower their mood.

It never affected me, but apparently a lot of people feel depressed after eating chocolate. I will buy a block and do some research on the matter. YUM YUM

Re: Does chocolate cause depression ..

I have two acquaintances who are choco-holics and I would say they are both slightly depressed.

Re: Does chocolate cause depression ..

Is it the chocolate or the sugar ? I have suffered depression for years, pretty much gave up sugar on 1st January and about 5 days later suddenly felt great ! Not been depressed since not even a little. This is the longest I have been without being depressed ever !

On the contrary - I prefer 'plain' chocolate and yes Barry I too only get depressed if I can't get my 'fix' of chocolate!!!

Re: Does chocolate cause depression ..

I have never met a depressed chocoholic. One bar a week where do these scientists get their information from
I have seen depressed people taking drugs, losing someone they love,
being tired and worn out with work.
I have mentioned before I become very cynical when these so called scientists tell us what we can or cannot eat. If you don't eat you die is my philosophy.

I don't know whether someone has been telling porkies but I ate a whole block of chocolate about an hour ago. I don't feel depressed, just awfully sick in the stomach.

Re: Does chocolate cause depression ..

I have to say I love chocolate but try to avoid it as I find it very hard to stop eating it once I start, it's highly addictive in my opinion. If I was in a pub and I felt I had enough I could leave half a pint behind me no problem, but if I had half a bar of chocolate on the table I could not put it away for another time, I would have to finish it.
It doesn't make me depressed though.
