Re: storm

Me too

Its over 200 miles wide, its 90 miles an hour winds which
is a hurricane and its got 4 inches of rain.
I am battening down and moving my garden furniture around. Its Monday morning our dustbins are collected
and I think they should have told us not to put them out
as I imagine they will be flying to Kansas from Nottingham and be meeting Toto half way.
I feel sorry for the animals and birds who have no idea that
this horrendous storm is coming. Plus the trees still a lot
full of leaves who will be blown down.
Last time it was in 1987 18 people killed mainly by falling
trees and flying things, and over 15million trees were
felled by the wind. Being a small country that was a
hell of a toll and that doesn't include animals in fields
or who knows how many poor birds were smashed about.
Very frightening and hope everyone keeps safe. Best thing
to do is keep inside and don't go out.

Re: storm

They keep saying SE England so I guess we are too, just looking at the oak tree out the back and it still has a lot of leaves so is a target for the wind if it comes.

Re: storm

Its usually windy here at the end of October and we have two trees one in our garden Beech tree and one in next doors a copper beech next to our fence, these trees I believe have shallow roots.

Re: storm

Re trees. They are saying that because of the amount of rain we have already had in the last few weeks, plus the up to 4 inches of rain coming with the wind that a lot of full trees will come down especially the shallow root kind.
I love trees and feel so sorry for their hundreds of years here just to be
blown down with a hurricane which is not the norm.

Re: storm

The position and orientation of my house means it is very susceptible to south westerlies ....if i could stand on my roof and look there is NOTHING from the south west to act as a wind break ...i look over the river Orwell valley all the other houses are lower ....what this means is the wind will scream over the ridge of my roof ,,the tiles on the leaward side are literally'sucked' off the roof ..in 11 years i have lived here that has happened twice same tiles same place ,,,its worrying when you can see 2 square meter of roof bouncing up and down it will hopefully it will hold together a s last time they glued the tiles down better still if the wind changes direction that will help as well ......I bet my insurance company will love me on Tuesday

Re: storm

That's what happened in 87. Very wet soil when the 'Fish' storm hit.

It should hit us here.
I'm a gardener so my phone will be ringing Monday and Tuesday
