Anyone too young for Vera Lynn?

I might be over 50 and nudging the next decade, but is anyone else appalled that everyone thinks we were all born in the days of Vera Lynn? I've got a relation in a care home who is a few years older than me, she loved Elvis, but what does she get??? I love Queen and heavy rock...just because I'm over 50 doesn't been I'm old....I was there in the days everyone seems to think was history....it's called the 60's and 70's

other than The White Cliffs of Dover don't know any other songs by her,or Gracie Fields either.

My favs Orby, Bee Gees, Dolly Parton, Charlie Grace, Alan Jackson, Jerry Lee Lewis. I like Gospel music much to the surprise of a lot of people.

Funny aint it Den - I thought the 50 60 year age group, was 'not' considered old anymore.... We lived through the best music, the best of many things, I wouldn't swap those years for anything !
Keep those memories keen - you will 'never' age .....

Re: Anyone too young for Vera Lynn?

This is clearly a case of LIFE imitating ART.

50 years ago I remember singing

"Wil you still need me, will you still feed me WHEN I'M 64"

It seemed hopelessly distant in the far far future. Now , for me, it's actually in the past.

I agree with the view that 60 is the new 40. It doesnt seem odd that so many of our 1960's ICONS are still shaking their tail feathers, past 70 years of age.

A pity that so many of our senior citizens are not so much revered as removed out of sight in care.

Now there's some ideas for future topics................

Vera lives in Ditchling - a little village just over the other side of the downs from me - less than 10 miles away.

I was born in 1948 & so missed the WW2.

Vera Lynn singing "We'll meet again" gives me goosebumps, nevetheless.

THe dear lady is now 96 & will always be held in great affection by the older folks & lots who are not so old.
