Manchester prints and other lost commodities

Anyone care to explain how brightly coloured curtain fabrics came to be known as MANCHESTER PRINTS?.

Does anyone recall the garish "modern" printed curtain fabric made from GLASS FIBRE back in the 1960s. It never caught on.

WHat happened to DRESS MATERIAL departments & paper patterns?

Not surprised those curtains didn't catch on, though I made some and they were a bugger to sew and you had to wash them in the bath cos the fibres broke, bloomin awful material that.
Not heard of Manchester Prints though.
Next generation were too busy working, bought ready made clothing.
