Wonderful Mobile Phones?

I am quite astounded when I talk to seniors at my club who say they only use their mobile phone for emergencies and don't turn it on normally because of the cost.

When you question them they have a fixed line at home as well as their mobile phone and their home phone rental alone is about $100 a quarter which with the calls they make usually is at least $150 a quarter.

When I tell them that they can get a mobile phone SIM card that costs $39.95 a month for unlimited calls and SMS plus about 4Mb data (ie $120 a quarter) they seem totally stunned.

Yet this is the reality, it is cheaper to have a mobile phone than a fixed line, you have the convenience of having a phone with you at all times and it has emails built in. Why on earth would people keep their land line? unless you need it for ADSL then it is madness.

Personally I have mine on the cheapest rental and use my mobile for all my outgoing calls. When the NBN arrives with its fibre into my house the land line will be a thing of the past.

Do you still cling to your land line phone instead of a mobile?

Re: Wonderful Mobile Phones?

my landline cost me £30.45 per month and that includes broadband, my calls are free for 1hr or 3hrs if talking to another of their customers, I can even ring you FOC FOR 1 HR and reduced price for mobile numbers.I have mobile if anyone needs to contact me or if I need to contact anyone, also take that to bed with me in case of fire and landline out of action, or burglers cut phone wire.

Re: Wonderful Mobile Phones?

My Mobile is only for emergencies and important calls. It is normally switched off. All else goes on the landline (including broadband). The only people who know my modile number are my immediate family. Any other calls or texts are wrong numbers and are deleted without responding to them. The mobile was only about £10 and calls cost me approx £2 a year.

Mine is used only for emergencies and is off 99% of the time, we looked at our home phone usage and decided as we cannot have broadband without a home phone we would carry on using it.

Re: Wonderful Mobile Phones?

I don't have a landline. Avoided having a mobile until I had to for work, and now it's my only phone. But I never use it for anything other than calls and texts. I don't actually use it that much, and never wanted an all singing all dancing phone.

Re: Wonderful Mobile Phones?

Land line calls are usually better quality than mobile, and I feel needed for broadband
My mobile is a simple one had for several years, and used for emergencies or mainly texting, and is pay as you go, £10 would last me several months

Re: Wonderful Mobile Phones?

I must admit that I wouldn't be able to do without my mobile phone now.

I very rarely make calls on it but do text family and its great as a mini computer. I'm often looking in on the internet, including here, and can post from it too. If any of my posts don't make a lot of sense its because of fat finger syndrome from my mobile.
