Is this DIY??

Look at this ....just bear in mind that when this was made over 200 years ago , there were no power tools specialist tools ...everything was done by hand and eye, and probably plenty of German beer..

What an ingenious piece of work Steve, they don't make things like that anymore, probably couldn't, even with all the power tools they have today.

Re: Is this DIY??

These wonderful cabinets and marquetry came from the 17th and 18th century. They used thin strips of veneer often mother of pearl inlaid.
They used scalpels and sand scorching techniques.
It was something my father was interested in..and there is a company in London who makes cabinets, not as ornate as that one though.

Ingenious, wonderful. Absolutely fascinating. I wonder if there are any undiscovered compartments lurking somewhere within.

Re: Is this DIY??

It is a lovely piece of work, but remember power tools have been around for yonks, well before the Romans, usually run by water/ ropes and pulleys, a good example is the pole lathe.
