Black, White and Colour.

A photograph of some Bluebells against a Beech hedge coming into leaf.

Black and white, very selectively colour popped to try to get a 3-D effect. While I'm quite pleased with the effect it would be interesting to hear what others think.

Sorry to be brief - but fabulous, the black really makes the picture subject pop

I like it! Fun to mess about with different effects, one day I'll get the hang of photoshop.

Re: Black, White and Colour.

Hi Fogey it is a nice shot but just my opinion is that the shot is a bit busy and may have been better on a tighter crop of a flower and only secretively colour popped the blue and not the green as well. I have heard of colour popping as "marmite" you either like it or you hate it but the point for me is you have to be selective how you use it, just my opinion.

I tend to agree with fitou - less colour would have been, in my opinion, more dramatic. I love black and white photography and think it can often have more impact than colour. I love the mixing of the two but one colour may have been more striking (I thought the trees in the background were just dead trees!).

I take on board what you all say.
This experiment has proved to me there is a place in the repertoire of post processing for this procedure - to get an illusion of 3-D by varying the intensity of colour as the eye moves into the picture.

OK, it might be labour intensive, but with the right image I think this could prove to be very effective.

Re: Black, White and Colour.

This might give a better example of what I mean.

The original image turned to black and white with the colour re-introduced with varying % strengths until, at the front of the frame 100% colour.
