I loved the film but I don't think I'll be bidding. In a previous auction one of the surviving bottles was sold for £1210 (today's equivalent - £2280). If these go for the same sort of value, I could buy about 80 bottles of a good quality, very drinkable single malt for the same price. I know which I would choose if I had a couple of grand going spare!Re: Whskey Galore...
It's Whisky (Scotch), not Whiskey(Irish), but nevertheless, I have a very tenuous connection with the tale. My late father-in-law was in the merchant navy at the time and actually saw the wrecked SS Politician in 1941. He claimed to have been aboard the ship after the whisky had been salvaged, but took as a momento, one of the 'compensating magnets' from the ships binacle.
