DSLR 50mm LENS ADVICE

Could some of the digital dslr photo camera troop out there enlighten me which would be the best buy out of the canon 50mm 1.4 or the canon 50mm 1.8 lens i know the 50mm 1.4 is a lot more money to buy than the 50mm 1.8 but looking on the web alot of people say there is not much difference can anyone give a bit of advice please

Hi Fran,

The 1.4 will give you a smoother bokeh (and is my personal favourite).

However, why not get the nifty fifty (the 1.8) and if you don't like it, sell it on ebay?

You just have to get one tho! The 50mm is such a great lens to have - whichever you go for.

The Nifty 50 is probably one of the best lenses Canon make, at least as for as sharpness and clarity and given its sub-£100 price. I have read many people use it for weddings and all sorts, with its very low F-stop. The only problem with it is it's build quality which isn't the best and its an idea to invest in a protective pouch/old sock to stop it getting knocked about.

Save your money and invest in a 17 - 40 mm far more versatile lens, but much much more expensive, it will always hold a good price, provided it is looked after.
One on Ebay at £439 and it has been used a lot.
It is my favourite lens, and it rarely comes off my camera if you are looking for a wide angle, the Sigma 10 - 20 mm. works well with Canon.
But once again, we are all different.

It's my late husbands and I'd like £1400
