Re: Collective Energy Scheme
In 1997 I worked with a marketing company here in Canada on promoting and developing the corporate identity for a municipal energy-trading (power buying) scheme. When we launched an invitation to join ENERconnect, 230 municipalities signed up, in agreement with the goal of purchasing bulk electricity and passing on savings to residents.
ENERconnect officials announced to the media that "the plan to aggregate muni loads and procure competitively priced power should save participants well over $100-million annually in their wholesale power costs."
They realized, however, that energy trading was best handled by an establisher marketer and turned to Enron within the first year. I can no longer find current references to ENERconnect and don't know if it became a success. Just based on this, I would hesitate to sign up with any new initiative. If it does work and shows a good track record and actual savings then maybe you could join further down the road.
