GPs, Receptionists and the like

With apologies to any members who are part of the medical profession or affiliated to Dr's surgeries.

I lost my cholesterol printout (2008-2013) and wondered if I'd left it at the surgery last week. I'd written some notes on it.

Phoned this morning and 'she' said my GP would ring me this afternoon.

Stayed IN and by the phone ALL DAY and he didn't ring !!!!!!!

He doesn't work Fridays and is off until April now.

Am I mad ? do I want to kill ?

I think I am going mad reading this lol.
How can you have a Doctor off until April.
Dont they have anyone else???
Surely they have someone else to give you another one?
Can you not go to the Surgery again.
Hope you get the paperwork soon.

Rachel, surely there must be more then 1 GP at your Surgery, we have 7 Doctors and 5 nurses at ours. But I would have thought if you wrote a letter and signed it, and went to your GP, surely the administration dept. would print out another copy for you, they might ask for a fee though.

Re: GPs, Receptionists and the like

Yes there are a number of Drs at the surgery and no doubt I can get a reprint but I was told he'd ring so I stayed IN.

But this leaves me confused and angry
Should I be angry with the reception person for telling me he'd ring, or my GP for not ringing ?
Did she pass on the message ?
Did he get it and not bother ?

It seems this is the way it is now Rachel - they must be so stretched these days, things get forgotten. Cant stand ringing them or going there !

It's not worth killing for is it Rachel

Who lost the printout ?
You wondered if you had left it in the surgery, so could it have been lost outside the surgery?
It is now Thursday and you lost it sometime last week, so was it not urgent until today.
Receptionist said GP would ring in the afternoon - so was it necessary to stay in by the phone waiting all day?
Do you think it is an emergency situation and your health is at risk if you have to wait for another printout.
Is your GP not allowed to take time off. Perhaps he might come in specially from his holiday to rummage through the waste bins in case your printout is there.

Sorry but I can't see that you should be angry with your GP or the receptionist. Your GP could have had an emergency and maybe that was the reason he did not ring you back. Or he may have given the job of getting you another printout to somebody else as he was going on annual leave.

I can see why they didn't ring, here unless it's a real medical problem that cannot wait the doctor will not call. Also they didn't do anything wrong they didn't lose it.

If you had returned next day they may have looked for it I guess, but so long after it would probably have been put in the rubbish.

Hmmmm ... well she shouldn't have told me he'd ring should she.

*cross*

Found it but still annoyed at the system, or lack of co-ordination

If I'm told to expect a phone call and knowing that a GP's time can be tight, then it would be discourteous of me to go out

Re: GPs, Receptionists and the like

Perhaps the receptionist shouldn't have told you the GP would ring you back Rachel - it seems a bit unusual that a GP would ring you about something you had lost and needed a replacemnt for. She might have been new and unsure of what she was supposed to do. Anyway, I think you must be pleased to have it back, but where did you find your printout Rachel?

Re: GPs, Receptionists and the like

A slight change of subject but our receptionist now has my mobile number, they apparently text patients the day before an appointment (especially with the nurse, which are usually made a week in advance) because so many people don't turn up and don't 'phone to cancel.
