My old faithful laptop that I take around with me is on Windows XP, and works away perfectly. If I'm honest I still prefer it to the Windows 7 that my Desk Top is on and the Windows 8 that I had to use(once was enough) at my Daughters.

I also like using Windows XP and we still have it on one of our computers

I see no reason to change it at present.

If you keep your protection software updated you should be ok.
