Danger: Bay leaves may be about

Having spent last night in A&E trying to get a doctor to remove a bay leaf from my throat which was trying to kill me,
(it kept intermittently blocking my trachea) I wish to warn you all...

REMOVE BAY LEAVES BEFORE CONSUMPTION

I can joke about it now, but until I managed to cough up that little leaf, I was sure I was going to asphyxiate

(and the doctor was no help, he said I'd swallowed it, and sent me home. Where I managed to dislodge leaf by hanging my head upside down from bed and coughing, and coughing, and coughing)

I now am giving my bay tree away....

Surely giving your bay tree away is a bit drastic! Lots of things could block your throat if you accidently swallow them. Glad they sorted you out.

That sounds awful Spinner - it's bad enough when a slurp of tea goes down the wrong way but to have something stuck must be very very frightening. Glad you got it out.

Hi Spinner, what a nasty experience, hope that you are OK now.

Please do not let this spoil your enjoyment of food, have you tried using a bouquet garni? Either put the herbs in a muslin pouch or tie them in a bunch and haul them out before serving.

Spinner darlin' - I do a lot of cooking using dried Bay leaves, so I take heed of your warning. I also use Bay Rum (a hair tonic) on my hair after I've washed it in the shower - love the smell of it - still reminds me of the smell of the old fashioned barbers who also used to use it.

Terrible thing to happen and so pleased you managed to get the bay leaf out of your throat. I cant believe they didnt realise it was still in there at the hospital. Didnt they put a camera down your throat to look?
I think its a good idea to put the herbs in a mouslin cloth as mentioned.
I must admit that I have swallowed cardamin seeds out of rice from my Curry and Rice bought in. Thats frightening as well.
So beware of those seeds as well.
