Same here - when I went to Frankfurt to flaunt my language skills, people looked at me as if I was a bit odd. It was a while before I was told that I spoke German with a very posh Viennese accent - a bit like someone with a cut-glass Oxbridge accent trying to converse with a scouser. Thanks Herr Palme (my old german teacher!).
For me, I absolutely loved English (language and literature), History, Geography and Music. I hated Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Metalwork, Woodwork and Technical drawing. I loved Rugby and Athletics, but hated Football and Cross-Country running.
