School Subjects

Which subjects at school did you love, or hate?

For myself I loved the sciences (physics, chemistry etc) but I hated PE and wasn't fond of maths.

Re: School Subjects

There was only one subject I didn't like and that was history - kings, queens, battles and dates ; my mind doesn't work like that !

I loved every subject, gaining knowledge is the greatest achievement one can have.

Re: School Subjects

History Geography, Chemistry and biology were subjects that interested me.

English Literature and language were subjects that I was ok with. Music was a subject I wasn't too keen on (except music appreciation).

Detested: Art, P.E.(including field games), Woodwork, metalwork, Technical drawing, R.I.

About one third of my schooling I consider a waste of time because I wasn't able to withdraw from any of the subjects I detested.

Re: School Subjects

I was quite good at English, RE and Geography and had a good general knowledge for which I got school prizes. I still disliked school though, finding no pleasure in it at all.

Re: School Subjects

I liked science & maths. Hated PE and German.

When I went to live in Germany, I soon learned that the Germans don't talk the same way that I learned in school. Knowing some of the grammar was useful, but no use for day to day conversation.

I found maths difficult as an abstract subject. It was only when I had to apply it to real situations, that it was relevant. Hard to explain, but maths has a certain 'beauty' about it.

Re: School Subjects

I am absolutely hopeless at maths, I need a calculator for even a simple sum! My parents employed private tutors to help me with the subject, but to no avail.

Same here - when I went to Frankfurt to flaunt my language skills, people looked at me as if I was a bit odd. It was a while before I was told that I spoke German with a very posh Viennese accent - a bit like someone with a cut-glass Oxbridge accent trying to converse with a scouser. Thanks Herr Palme (my old german teacher!).

For me, I absolutely loved English (language and literature), History, Geography and Music. I hated Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Metalwork, Woodwork and Technical drawing. I loved Rugby and Athletics, but hated Football and Cross-Country running.
