Patti Page

American singer Patti Page, one of the most popular artists of the 1950s, has died at the age of 85.

She recorded four US number-one hits, including Tennessee Waltz and the novelty record (How Much Is That) Doggie In The Window.

Re: Patti Page

God rest her soul.
I never knew she sang the Tennessee Waltz either, who's the fella sings it with the country accent "Inner duced him to ma darlin''. I remember the doggy in the window when I was a kid, little did I know I would have one now pining for his mistress, he's blind watching out for her.

Re: Patti Page

I remember my brother having some of Patti's records, he gave me a load of old 78s so they may still be in a box in my loft.

She had a lovely voice and I guess like so many fell out of favour when pop music came in.

Re: Patti Page

My wife is a great fan of "Tennessee Waltz" and I do like it as well.

Rest In Peace.

Re: Patti Page

It just doesn't seem possible that that song came out in 1950 - almost 63 years ago. For goodness sake - 63 years! I've always loved that song, and we're still here to remember it.

Where does time go at all.

Re: Patti Page

I have no idea Mollie.

The song is older than me, I didn't know there was recording equipment that far back

Re: Patti Page

Ya daft Owd Bugger. There was recording equipment back in the late 1800s on what were called phonographs, and records on vinyl started in or around the late 1900s on little 6" records which were played on the old wind-up record players with a bell-shaped brass speaker.

What about all the recordings of Bill Haley, Tommy Steel, Marty Wilde, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard? They all started in the 50s.
