Is that a wart?

Funny how some things from your childhood stick in your mind. My mother was terrified of touching water that an egg had been boiled in, it was certain that you'd get warts.

In practise, it was more likely that touching the boiling water would cause serious burns, but I digress.

When I eventually challenged my mother with this piece of nonsense , I was met with " I know its true because my mother told me," and who told her ?, her mother of course.

I have checked this on the internet and amazingly it turns out to be fact. I wont be so dismissive in future

Did you know a woman can get pregnant without having penetrative sex, I found it on Wikapedia.

Stop it folk, you're putting me off eating eggs, drying myself after washing and, above all, going to the loo !

How about, 'don't stir with a knife, you'll stir up strife'?
One of my mum's sayings.
