Remembrance Day

For all of those who died in WWI, WW2, Northern Ireland, Korea, Burma, Afghanistan and everywhere else where needless war has been waged, and for the loss of far too many lives.

Re: Remembrance Day

For all those including my three uncles who gave theirs lives and are now resting on foreign soil,so that we could be free.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Re: Remembrance Day

IF I should die, think only this of me;
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

Re: Remembrance Day

It was a lovely day here for the Remembrance service with the sun shining through the golden leaves. I seldom go to it these days.

My mind goes back to being in The Girl Guides in the 50/60s when the parades to the war memorial at home where huge being so soon after the war. I used to stand with pride looking at the names of family members on the memorial.

Some of us will never forget....
