As this is a subject that cropped up in this topic I throw this in:

If you want to know what programs are running at start up can I suggest you try a program like Startup Inspector.

Its a free program that tells you the programs that your computer loads at startup (doh!) The advantage is that you can then find out (using the program) whether all these programs are essential, not so essential or not needed at all and choose to unload or disable them. For example you might find there are several upgrade checkers hogging your computer's memory which can safely be disabled.

Startup Inspector is far easier to use that trying to fiddle about with Task Manager. Most of the time you need to do little or nothing and you can just run it occasionally to see that nothing has changed.

(BTW It is not a replacement for Malwarebytes or Anti virus software just an aid to keeping your computer 'tidy')
