I can't watch detective programmes, I think it gets to a point where you have seen every plot over the years so they become predictable .

They can also be very formulaic eg bachelor with brusk exterior but heart of gold who drinks too much. Woman detective who feels she has to be harder and tougher than the men to prove herself...
