Meg, I rang them and it seems the standard breakdown cover I have at the moment is around £19 extra on my car insurance, and they have changed it to breakdown from quarter mile from home instead of one mile now. If I want to increase it to cover breakdown AT home, it will cost approx. £35 instead of £19, so it's almost double isn't it.
Is it worth it I wonder? Don't know what to do now.
Hi Mups mine is the same, about double .
I guess you have to weigh up how old your current battery is, the possibility of someone taking you to get a new one and how far you are from a garage/shop.
Some garages will come and fit one for you and doing so may not cost more than the extra premium.

Re: My car

Unfortunately old batteries don't usually (in my experience) die gradually - thus giving plenty of warning - but rather the car starts up fine and then you turn it off and go to start it again and nothing.

When the wife had her old Escort she parked it outside Somerfield to get a few messages and when she came out literally 10 minutes later there wasn't even enough power to operate the central locking.
