I always wonder why we give wedding presents at all. Back in the days, where contraceptives were not available and girls got pregnant before marriage, people gave presents to help them set up a home. That continued for everybody until folk got greedy and wanted more. Surely you invite people to your wedding to share the joy of the celebration... and if you don't, perhaps you should have a quiet wedding and keep all the money you spend on the reception to buy what you want.

I think now a a days and for quite a while young couples have lived together and have everything they need ,,,when it comes to getting married they look at what they can have ,
I suppose they look at what they are spending on their guest and want something in return ..

That could be a reflection of how some people think nowadays Eliza.
How sad.

That is really sad because they invited the guests. When I have a dinner party I provide all the food and drink and expect nothing, but if somebody brings a bottle of wine it is gratefully accepted...... I certainly don't suggest that they should have brought champagne. It is a bit like saying " We want you to come to our wedding but expect a large present" I wouldn't attend a wedding if that were the attitude.
