I can tell you now, the next time we saw the man, he was washing his thing in the brook and he said he won it at the Mop! (the local annual Fair)
We went to the police but they didn't really do anything.

This has to be the post of the year!

My father 'learning' how to cut hair on me when I was about 9.
Down the garden on a hot summer day, in my short trousers and no shirt.
Between the rabbit hutches and the chicken run, taking a bit more off until I ended up with a crew cut.
Later he became quite good cutting my elder brothers and his work mates too.

In later years, we used to see him about the town but l don't think he would have remembered us!
The funniest thing was, some years ago, he used to be a regular at a pub where there was live music on a Thursday evening. One Thursday, l was in the pub and was handed a flyer, inviting everyone in the pub to his 70th birthday! Of course, l didn't go, I wouldn't want to see his party tricks!!
Last year, l saw in the paper that he had died!

Alas, the present and the future get in the way of us reminiscing about the past

Re: Things yousee as a child but never forget.

The rat which I thought was a monkey (I had just seen one of those poor monkeys in the little outfits that day, which had tried to escape by jumping on my mum's shoulder and the owner with his accordion chasing after us all). Of course the rat bit me when I tried to pet it. It was in a drain and had probably come from some waste ground nearby. The shock when I realised this was a different (unknown) creature. I had to go to hospital for a nasty tetanus shot My dad found the rat and killed it. I was 2 and a half years old and can still picture it.
