Where in Swimmy's first post did he ask if we thought animal experiments were moral?

Re: Science going mad

Hi

My post had nothing to do with animal experiments, it was to do with the ethics of creating new life forms which would not exist in nature.

Re: Science going mad

This isn't much less ethical than the awful things we already do to animals in the name of science, nutrition, sport, etc. It's just another type of cruelty on a living being. We already use porcine and bovine grafts for human surgery. Animals have no real rights and I can't see part human lab animals running around causing mayhem. We already breed millions for slaughter. The tragedy is the abuse as these mutant creatures may be in agony.

The stem cells that scientists like to use come from embryos. Those from the body are limited in number and more difficult to use in a lab. So we can't really win.

NB I am not a vegetarian.

Neither Tarantula nor myself said anything about "animal experiments".

Swim, are no animals or animal embryos involved in any part of these new technologies which you so rightly question ?
Are they or are they not intended "for our medical benefit" - whatever the moral or ethical issues ?

Hi

World of difference Pummy.

They are messing about with eggs and sperm and changing DNA, not experimenting on sentient creatures.

Ladies and gentlemen ..
... we will now have an adjournment , a comfort break or refreshment break, make of it what you will ... whilst Pummy confers with his alter ego before presenting his next argument in the proceedings.
