Re: Do they know Christmas?
I thought this must be a North thing as I, a southerner always thought you left your decorations up until 12th night and after that it was bad luck.Re: Do they know Christmas?
Cate, mine are still up and will stay there until after the 6th. It will take hours to get them down, huge tree, ceiling, walls, pictures, ornaments all covered in decs also in the porch, hall and kitchen. Kids christmas pictures up, seven sets of lights. Like Santa's grotto in our house. I will be sad when they are gone.Re: Do they know Christmas?

I understand where your cousin is coming from Cate. I love all our decorations, they are way over the top so everyone says. If it was just us I would just do a few decs. I do it for for the grandchildren, they see it every year and if I didn't they'd be so disappointed. I make a rod for my own back don't I?Re: Do they know Christmas?

Re: Do they know Christmas?
When I was little many moons ago, they used to wait until Christmas Eve to put the decs up. One year my big sister had threaded cotton wool onto thread and hung strands up in the hall so that it looked like it was snowing. Although we didn't get such expensive pressies and really everything was a surprise Christmas was kind of magical. In the weeks before grown ups would talk in whispers and strange shaped things would be hidden in mums wardrobe.Re: Do they know Christmas?
I always thought Twelfth Night was 5th January and that all decorations had to be removed by midnight on that date to avoid bad luck. As it says here: http://www.whichday.com/articles/index.php?article=16
