Re: No it's not !

Well I know/have known some really friendly Southern Welsh and English northerners who constantly use words like "brilliant" or "smashing" often in a similar way to Americans or antipodeans saying "awesome" usually accommpanied with a beaming smile. Seems to be common in places such as Cheshire and the Wirral (just thinking where the nice people I know who talk like that are from). I find such people really nice to be around, maybe because they are genuine with it.

On a slightly separate point I really like when South Africans say "it's a pleasure" after you say thank you to them. I've met a few South Africans who always say this and it always leaves a good impression. It's the same as us saying "you're welcome" but seems more meaningful.

Re: No it's not !

Our hotel staff in Newquay were always saying 'you're welcome' after I thanked them. Whether it was for bringing the meal, cutlery, or when I got drinks from the bar. One time I asked for a pot of tea, and she carried the tray for me because I started coughing violently. I thanked her profusely, and got 'you're welcome!' Again.

They were very friendly and courteous.

Are good things bad?

Why are happy kids sad?

These are examples of Brit talk.
