Aftermath of the Suez crisis - the duplicitous UK, French and Israeli Governments came up with a scheme to take back the Suez Canal, following Nasser's 'nationalisation' of it.

1957 was not such a 'happy' year, since the cost of fuel rocketed after the Suez canal was closed, forcing traffic to and from the Middle-east oil fields to sail around the 'cape'.
