Re: Nhs

Sounds to me as though the A&E doctor was wrong.
I would question his words pdq
In any case any gp worth his salt should be able to fast track a scan within 48 hours
Maybe it's one of these postcode lottery stories, very worrying.

I thought the same Mort. I don't understand this at all.
If you went to A & E at midnight, they wouldn't send you to see your GP before they treated you?
Deylon, is this a recurring problem? Is your friend already undergoing treatment or receiving medication from her GP for this problem? Is it possible the hospital couldn't access her records and needed to know what had been done so far?
It seems very odd otherwise.

Re: Nhs

Is this about who pays for the scans I wonder, if the GP orders them comes from their budget rather than hospital ? If so that's really bad.

Re: Nhs

I thought I would post the following on this thread, as it's about doctors and hospitals ! A friend emailed it to me today!

Not sure if it is true, but I expect it is supposed to be a satirical "amusing" story. If it is a made up story, then it would not surprise me if it was nearer the truth than anybody could tell !..............

Two patients limp into two different medical clinics with the same complaint? Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip replacement.

The FIRST patient is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week.

The SECOND sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another week and finally has his surgery scheduled for 6 months from then.

Why the different treatment for the two patients?

The FIRST is a Golden Retriever.
The SECOND is a Senior Citizen.

Next time take me to a vet!

Actually, you may not believe this, but my father was a pharmacist and he had his own shop. When my mum fell and hurt her wrist, dad took her to the local vet, who X-rayed her wrist, saw the broken bone, plastered it up and said return in a few days to make sure the plaster is OK, etc, etc. I thought, at the time, that my father had little faith in the NHS ! This happened about 40 years ago !!!

Re: Nhs

Tis true really, but the key there is we pay for our Labradors treatment over £600 for the tummy problem she had, taxation would be through the roof if we paid for same day care in NHS.

Whilst I agree there's something wrong, you missed one minor detail: the FIRST patient had its treatment paid for and, if its vet is anything like ours, paid through the nose!

I believe private medicine is very much the same.

Re: Nhs

You are probably right Julie ,if my friend goes to her GP he pays for her scan, if the Hospital does it they pay. My friend heard this morning that she is to have 2 C T scans on the 19th September, her GP said this was unacceptable and would try to get her into another Hospital, but after trying 5 different Hospitals all round Birmingham area there are no earlier appointments available , so my friend is going to have a scan done privately next Tuesday [ again the earliest available ]

Re: Nhs

That's terrible I guess being around a city the NHS is pretty stretched though, it's that postcode NHS again.
