Re: Mod, Rocker or Hippy ?

Don't larf, I had a postbox red VESPA which I bought 2nd hand for £15 and within 2 weeks I had come off it enough times to deem me & my VESPA as too dangerous.

The problem was that the engine (?) was based on one side, making the damn thing unstable. I sold it to my dad for what I'd paid for it & he toodled around on it for another 5 to 10 years.

Loved my bright red Lambretta, minis in summer maxis in winter loved Jazz rather than Rock so I guess that makes me a Mod? but definitely not a Rocker.

Anyone from Southampton? I used to go to a Jazz Club in the early 60s maybe in Bitterne saw and heard Acker Bilk play there strangely I think the club was called The Dirty Dog? Can anyone remember?

Re: Mod, Rocker or Hippy ?

I dressed Mary Quant style in black and white in the 60s. I had a Triumph Tina and I also wore yellow hot-pants, white knee length boots, black and white make-up, kept my dark hair long like Cher's. Bell-bottoms and skinny tops.

We had a dance club in Wigan called The Room At The Top and they had ultra-violet lighting so, if you wore white, it looked purple and it was brilliant with live bands, but no alcohol as 16 year olds could go in.

Then there was Wigan Casino, which was very well-known in its day in the early 70s but by 1972 I was married but, before it became the meeting place of Northern Soul and the all-nighters, it was a dance hall with live artists like The Rolling Stones, and others, and a theatre with seats watching live artists such as Frankie Howerd and other acts.

Sorry, entered into nostalgia there for a few minutes.
