Re: Turmeric benefits?

I understand Turmeric contains a phytochemical called curcumin which may have anti carcinogenic properties and I put a pinch in many dishes and a bit more than a pinch in curry

Re: Turmeric benefits?

This is crazy, I was just thinking about turmeric!

Turmeric is a super spice and has shown to be active against lots of microbials (such as H Pylori) as well as having anti cancer properties as Meg has mentioned above.

Try this for a quick recipe for tasty scrambled eggs:
  • Fry some onions in some clarified butter or animal fat such as duck fat
  • Add salt and pepper as desired (sea salt not that processed rubbish)
  • Add some dried turmeric and cayenne pepper (however much you fancy really)
  • Add some chopped garlic (again however much you fancy)
  • When nicely 'browned' add two or three eggs (another super food - if organic)
  • Scramble as you normally would.

You can add coriander or other herbs if you like too

Re: Turmeric benefits?

I make a turmeric rice to go with curry
Saute a finely chopped onion in a little oil until it has caramelised,
..add half a teaspoon of turmeric and fry off ,
..add to this some freshly cooked basmati rice.

and a spicy rice which I serve with a variety of other salads and cold meat.
It is much the same as above but I add some garam masala and crushed garlic along with the turmeric and while the rice is boiling add first finely chopped carrots, then a moment before the rice is done peas/sweetcorn/red pepper.
Strain and stir into the onion and spice mix.
This is nice hot or cold..

Re: Turmeric benefits?

I have lots of turmeric because I enjoy Indian cuisine.. I could just leave it out of my spice drawer where I can see it and add a pinch to lots of things.

Here is Dr.Weil's tea recipe as well as some info on Turmeric

http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/ART02833/turmeric-tea

I seem to recall an Indian friend at work talking about Turmeric's antibiotic properties too..
