Re: Death Penalty

The Soham murders, two bright young lives taken by Ian Huntley the school caretaker. Is it right he's just lolling around for 40yrs in jail? What's the point of him living? The parents of those two children are the ones being punished for every day he lives.

That's the huge tragedy of it that they have to live through each day .......If he was gone - maybe they could put things to rest a little easier.
I recall with Hyndley her constant appeals to be released, all I could think of were the families having to put up with that !

Don't forget the parents of those 2 little girls that were murdered are now paying to keep him in jail - their tax money feeds him and keeps him in a nice warm environment. I would rather my tax go toward the hangmans noose.

Agree totally with the first statement but definitely not with the second. A civilised society does not kill people if it is to be worthy of the title civilised. Most murders are one off crimes of passion and the hope of release is also an incentive toward good behavior and rehabilitation.

If a family member is murdered does death or a life sentance bring them back or dull the pain? I think not. Justice is blindfolded for a reason, justice carries a sword AND scales for a reason.

Norway (or is it Denmark?) has the right idea; 30 years imprisonment is too long for any crime.

I notice the 'Prisons are holiday camps' brigade are still about let them book themselves in at the Savoy for 5 years and not leave the hotel, then they will have some experience of luxury and incarceration to tell us about.

Neither death or a life sentence will dull the pain, but the knowledge that the murderer is once again freely walking the streets, while their loved one is dead, will exacerbate that pain to an unbearable degree.

For some particularly appalling murders (eg Lee Rigby's killers, The Yorkshire Ripper etc) then 30 years is, in my view, probably too short.
