Sounds rather like the 'Freecycle' sites, which we use.

What about exchange of skills - i.e. plumbers helping electricians, builders helping others, carpenters helping others on an exchange basis - not necessarily locally. Somebody could put up a skilled tradesman in exchange for some payment, accommodation and their work.

Oh Azz, if you only weren't on the other side of the Pond! My Mac could use a complete going over ... and it's lovely and warm here in the Summer! You do love warm weather..
