D-Day Docudrama
It was on channel "Yesterday", it's just finished now, it's a new channel and some of the programs are very good, the production was very realistic with original footage from the landings in 1944.
The Americans had it really hard on Omaha beach, they took the most casualties, one German gunner, a lad of 17 at the time, fired over 10,000 rounds from his machine gun.
He was on the program saying how he could'nt understand why the American troops just kept on coming through the slaughter.
The city of Caen was a hinge-pin in the British sector which had to be taken, but due to Monty's indecision to thrust ahead in the early stages the allied air forces had to reduce the town to rubble, one young French chap working in the hospital had the presence of mind to lay out blood stained sheets like red crosses in the hospital grounds so the bombers could see it was a hospital, thus saving hundreds of lives.
We all owe those brave men a huge debt for the sacrifices they made.
