In 2007, I too visited Queen Hatshepsut's Temple. A truly beautiful structure, quite different from other temples, almost modern in appearance.
One fascinating story about Queen Hatshepsut is the one about her secret lover. It is said that she took a commoner, named Senemut, as her lover. This, not surprisingly, was against all custom and tradition, and would have outraged other noble's and certainly the priesthood.
If you stand in front of the temple, and turn to you right, there is another tomb hidden and buried deep. That tomb is thought to be her lover's tomb. Senemut's tomb is closed to the public.
