I love it too. Can't wait!

And who cares if it was or wasn't like that - still makes wonderful viewing. The book was lovely as well.

I'll probably watch it and in complete contrast, watch The Dirty Dozen (again) straight after.

Ooooooohhh!!! Feel like I've been wrapped in warm blankets and drunk a big mug of hot chocolate.

Perfect Sunday evening viewing.

Course being a man's man [ahem!] I didn't watch it [well OK then I peered over the top of my glasses while on the laptop!]

It was lovely
And so topical - chequebook journalism!
I hope our Laura doesn't have her head turned by that nasty young man. The clock-maker from last series was much better ... but I wonder if Alfie will be her man?
Don't you want to wish the Postman and the Minister's daughter well in their endeavours?

Re: Larrrkroise to Candullfurrrrd

Sorry...can`t bear it.
It`s OK for Austen serials to get away with nobody doing anything because they would have had servants, but this is meant to be about ordinary people.
In those days washing would have taken a whole day each week, and cooking would have been an almost constant chore. Women would have made their own bread, clothes, soap, grown their own veg, kept pigs or hens, sent the old man out poaching for rabbit, the kids out gathering berries or mushrooms and the Doctor would need paying for so everyone would put up with minor ailments. etc.
I really don`t think they would have had a lot of time for all this bucolic jollity.

Re: Larrrkroise to Candullfurrrrd

Quite right - just as the East End of London is full of big hearted cockneys who view murders, affairs etc etc etc on a daily basis, Yorkshire farming communities are plagued by planes falling out of the sky on them and the few remaining old city centre terraced streets in Manchester don't have any asian or afro-caribbean inhabitants (and of course long term residents there have seen all sorts of death and destruction, including a crazy mass murderer)

I didn't watch the first series for much the reasons you have put forward Claire. But it's just a bit of Sunday night escapism - the sun always shines and nobody is hungry!

Claire, if I want realism, I can look out of my front door, or watch the news. Sometimes it's good just to go into fantasy land for a bit. We all know it wasn't really like that, but, as I said before, who cares.

It's still perfect Sunday evening viewing. So relaxing.

Re: Larrrkroise to Candullfurrrrd

I have a copy of Flora Thompson's book which I first read when I was at school and loved and I was really looking forward to this series when it began .
I watched a couple of the first episodes and was so disappointed, it followed on from Cranford which I think was so much better in every way. I haven't watched it since then.
