Opening a new bank account
Just had a strange conversation with a bank we wish to open an account with, apparently they can open an account for us if we are in receipt of benefits, a local grant or pension, but working and not having a passport means we have to ask the bank manager to make a special dispensation to open an account.
We have money, DDs going back many years were born here, have utility bills in our names and have lived in the same home since 1989 but can't prove we are citizens so might not be allowed to open an account.
All very odd, do other countries have these bizarre rules ?
