A couple went to the reception desk of a Premier Travel Inn to settle up their bill. When they offered cash it was refused because they happened not to have proof of identity!!

That sounds ridiculous, I didn't think that cash could be refused if it was legal tender. I suppose most people pay by card these days
Yep, sadly its the sign of the times... with all the vat fraud and money laundering that we See to day... paying with cash, over a certain amount arises suspicions

I think I'd have been tempted to say that I never carry credit/debit cards and did that mean my stay was for free? I bet they'd have taken the cash!
