My MIL was always complaining about the noise coming from next door and swore that next doors phone was ringing at 2am. She said their television was loud and she could hear music and that her microwave kept pinging.

Now MIL is extremely deaf and often cannot hear her own phone ringing let alone the neighbours. It came to a head when she swore that a neighbour across the road had put Christmas decorations up in his garden a the snowman was singing carols.

We spoke to her doctor who said it was the steroid type inhaler she was using. He said that all steroids MAY cause this problem and put her on another inhaler she is now back to being very deaf and noise free.

I know that this must be an awful thing to live with particularly when there is no easy cure like mum had. Please don't think I am making light of what is a really awful thing but at the time mum's little problem was a puzzlement.

Re: Tinnitus

In the September 2013 issue of Prevention magazine there is a good article about tinnitus. I think it will answer many questions for you. Good luck. JL
