However which is Barniers aim in proposing the immigration idea?
I know of two similar examples.
Geert wilders and his party were the first to put on the political agenda the second generation moroccans. Children (sons) of morrocans (invited to netherlands to do jobs locals thought below their standing. Later their wives came over) who adopted the ways of their fathers toward (western) girls.
Wilders asked at a meeting of his party: do you want more moroccans in holland or less?
This party, on the right became very popular, and vote winning. The conservative party (rutte's party) was overtaken on the right, and lost many votes to geert.
To regain these votes, the conservatives had to adopt wilders' ideas as its own.
Nigel farage was getting very popular on brexit, costing the conservatives many votes. To regain these votes the conservatives had to adopt nigel's stance on brexit.
Marie le pen became popular on immigration costing...
Barnier, to attract these votes has to adopt...
