Re: A new trade deal in the making
Looking on at this thread is interesting. The "I'll sit him in a room for 9 hours" thing sounds like a joke to me. I sure hope it is. She couldn't be serious. Australia has nothing but good will towards the UK in terms of trade. And Australia will accept absolutely nothing less in return. My impression is we are happy to trade with anybody; the UK..the EU - and that includes China -if the negotiations are fair and both have a win/ win objective. If they don't well, looking back over my notes on the principles of effective negotiation, they are not negotiation at all. The argy bargy that is going on between the UK and the EU is the business of both of you. Not us. But the zeitgeist in Australia is that we have no time for mind games. You deal with us on a fair playing field. Or?..play with a straight bat if the UK vernacular suits you, or forget it. We have enough crap and bullying from China to deal with in respect to trade at the moment without opening up a new front in Europe. China is trying to strangle our economy right now. No denial that their actions are hurting but in the big picture they are failing. All they are succeeding in doing is making themselves look like prize prats. As far as the rest of the world goes, We just want successful and mutually beneficial trade arrangements. Anything else is a waste of time.Re: A new trade deal in the making
According to the ABC trade minister Dan Tehan has departed Britain promising an in-principle trade deal with the United Kingdom by June.
