The Honours List

I've just been reading a thread about the sad death of Richard Briars and some were saying that he should have been knighted - given some of the ones who are.

Do you think that the Honours are given to the right people? Should the Honours List be done away with or does it serve a useful purpose for society?

Rarely agree with the honours list - see no point in it now....

Re: The Honours List

I hate the idea of honours going to people just because they are famous, they should only go to folks that have done something for the country above and beyond the call....

Re: The Honours List

My thoughts too Barry. They are given out like sweets and I think it has devalued the honour.

I have lived with the same wife for 54 years, shouldn't I be a Sir.

Re: The Honours List

Have to say that I agree with Barry and Mall - I though knighthoods should go to people who have gone above and beyond (hence the origin of it) and not to people who have just done their job.

So sorry, Wrinkly - you're just doing your job as a hubbie

Re: The Honours List

I don't take much notice of the honours list. Sir MBE OBE not got to do much to get one these days. There will be more people with one, than without one.
