Re: Aaaaaashoooo!

Yes I have it Mollie, it was pretty bad when first diagnosed, gave up the ciggies over two years ago, keep fit and active and keep to the meds (should eat well but don't do that bit) and now I am tons tons better than I was. I can keep up with these frantic grandchildren, walk for miles and don't let it affect me. When I get an exacerbation though it is frightening, can't breath, heart pumping so a bad cold, flu could be drastic for me, hence the meds on standby. Sorry Mollie, I should have explained. How about you today, all clear still?
PS still got this funny voice.

Oh that's okay, Mary. I'm just glad that those things help you when needed.

Me, I'm fine. Don't let those pesky viruses get you down.

Maryl, I have COPD also (emphysema); didn't know that about steroids. I'll ask my doctor when I see her next month, thanks!

Re: Aaaaaashoooo!

Eileen, you may not need them. I have seven days worth of steroids and antibiotics which I keep at home just in case. When I take them I put in for another presciption straightaway so they are always here. In the first 18months after diagnosed I took them every 2 or 3 months. I have not had them for a whole year now and didn't really need them this time. Antibiotics are just Amoxillin and steroids are Prednisolone (or something like that). Good idea, if you don't need them all well and good. Nice to know they are there though.

Eileen if you have wheezing the steroids are supposed to reduce the inflammation in your airways to make breathing easier.

I have just been prescribed a 5 day course of prednisolone tablets, 6 each morning as well as antibiotics.

I will start a new thread on COPD

Re: Aaaaaashoooo!

I finished these prednisolone and antibiotics yesterday and today my voice is back to normal! I think they caused the croaky voice you know.
Meg, don't be too concerned if yours gets worse if this is anything to go by.
