I had about a mile to walk to and from school, if I followed the road, but if I cut across the pasture it was probably less than 3/4 of a mile. In good weather I'd always cut across, or if snow wasn't too deep. Did snag my coat on the fences a few times doing that tho and mother wasn't ever too happy about that..lol

About a mile, in any weather!
I remember walking one icy day
I had my school bag on my back..
My sports kit bag in one hand..
My art folder under my arm..
And my cooking ingredients and crockery in a basket in the other.
I slipped on the ice and had no hands left to save myself
I remember how that hurt even now!
